is it posible to put a biger motor in a 88 firebird?
Yes, you can put a bigger motor in it. Bad Streets Bad! The firebirds are commonly swapped into a greater life with a 350. pick a 350, any 350.
Maybe it would be a lot easier to swap a 3.8 or 4.2 V-6 in there to replace the 2.8?
Won't get the brute force of a 350 without some work (maybe turbo a la Grand National or blower a la Regal GS or Pontiac GTP)
Of course, add a lot of power/torque and the rear end needs upgrade, but at least you have less weight on the nose...
Nope, do the extra work, forget the small block and put in a big block. The work is worth it.
I dont know about that dave. a BB might just tweak that from a lot. the late firebirds werent especially solid. and also, Gas prices are going up again. like always. WHY DONT GAS PRICES GO DOWN????
What frame??? A pair of frame connectors will tie that unibody together just fine. If it's a daily driver, then of course fuel mileage would be a concern, but fuel mileage has never been a concern of mine on a Saturday night cruizin special.
Back in the stone ages, when I was thinkin' of building the panel truck there were rumors floating around that gas prices might top 50¢ a gal. I thought man... I may have to sell the project before it even gets of the ground.Quote:

What we wouldn't give for 50¢ a gal. gas NOW.
Now I'm buildin' another project, and here go the gas prices again. Didn't stop me last time....... will it this time???????? Naaaaahhh.
Tell me about it. Im looking at an AM Grand wagoneer with a 360, and gas prices climb like the moon. But, im still getting it. Something about an 87 jeep and 200$ i cant ignore....
Why not swap in an LS-1 with a 4L60 trans? With 3.73 gears and the overdrive the 4L60 has combined with the lockup converter you can get over 20 miles per gallon and still run a 13 flat 1/4 mile using all stock parts! I have seen several of these on Camaros and Firebirds of your vintage and they really aren't that expensive to do if you shop prudently in wrecking yards for a good donor car. Don't forget the LS-1 is all aluminum so you're not planting a bunch of excess weight on the front end.

I always thought the gas prices should be based on the year of your car.........hmmmm how much was gas in 1923 ? :3dSMILE:
I like that idea viking. According to a few old car books of my grandfathers, gas prices were around 11 cents a gallon for "super-Premium" fuel. What exactly is super-premium?
That would be Leaded High Octane Premium
Do a turbo 3.8 out of a GNX.
