dodge HEI
Ok, so I got a stand - alone Chevrolet style HEI for the steaming turd, aka 73 charger.
It is a summit brand, and shortly after I got it, it blew its module. So, this time, no spark, I figured it was the same.
Well, trying to get the module out was a trick. The left side plug just would not let go. I ended up breaking a little black wire off the plug, but I have no idea where it went.
Ended up pulling the dizzy ( dodge is easier than Chevy ) and looking it over on the bench. Moral of the story: the little black wire is connected to the red wire, going to the cap. It definitely is NOT a ground, but I have no idea where it went. I clipped it off, and the dizzy works fine. BTW, the coil was bad, not the module.
Also, there was some oil in the dizzy, made it past the bushings. I didn't see any kind of gasket.
So, anyone have any idea where the little black wire went? No, It's not the condenser wire. I probably should have snapped a pic.
And, what about the oil?
Thanks as always.

Thx tech.
I don't see my wire in that diagram. Also where it shows wires to the distributor, it really should show them as the pick up coil.
But it does explain why that little wire FRIED when I put it to ground.
Just glad I did it on the test bench. Like I said, little wire was definitely NOT a ground.

Oh yes, and about the oil? It's new, so I can't really imagine the bushings are bsd, but something is letting oil up the shaft.

I was dropping off a carb for rebuild today, and there on his shelf was exactly what I needed!
So now I know: the little black wire DID go to the condenser. The wire which is ring terminaled under the condenser is the ground.
Dooman makes a replacement, 80 something Chevy truck.

Omg what a job it was to track down this part.
Searched the Doorman site, no help
Called Summit, no help.
Two parts stores, no help.
Then a burst of inspiration: eBay.
Sure enough, immediately found a module and harness ( with condenser) for under $20, delivered.
Also, one of the eBay ads popped up a Summit part number. I just might call them back and complain.
