Different tie rod ends have different tapers on them, so you have to be real careful. The taper is measured in inches per foot or degrees of taper. Here's a 1 1/2 inches per foot reamer.....which has a 7.15 degree taper to it......

If you mix and match without taking the taper of the ball joint and the hole it is going into consideration, you could put together a death trap.
