Reverse lock out on a stock column shift set up?

I recently browsed the rules for an org I'm going to race with a few times next year. I saw they require a reverse lockout to be in these classes. The vehicle I'm going to be using is my 72 K30. Has anyone added a reverse lock out to a stock type shift linkage? I was going to use a stock column shift column, a lokar shift cable kit, and the trans will shift like a stock TH350 will. The only thing I can come up with is add a tab to the shift linkage on the trans and add an electric solenoid to be powered up after you go to neutral to keep the shifter from engaging into reverse? I'd really like to make the column shifter work as I've spent a little to get the pieces to do so. A floor shifter would have been cheaper, but not the look I was going for. Any thoughts guys?

Does it have to be in or on the shifter? Can you add a stop on the trans?

I may have to look at NHRA and IMCA rules and see what they say because in these rules it doesn't. But the NHRA and IMCA rules trump these guys for the most part.

Sounds like the cable/column conversion like I initially set up on my Dodge.

You should already have a reverse lockout built into the column. Pull the shifter down into low, then without pulling the shift handle towards you, up shift it. You should not be able to get past neutral into reverse without pulling the handle towards you. We're so used to pulling the shift handle towards us when we drive most people aren’t aware of this feature. As far as I know this meets the requirements of the sanctioning bodies.

Thanks Mike. I couldn't remember if this column would have it set up that way or not. I have't driven an auto chevy truck from this era since I was 16. I happen to have a 72 burb sitting at the shop complete. I'll check it this weekend.
