Setting Points
I have a 69 350 mtr with point ignition. I installed new points, but
no way to get gauge to them for gap as condenser and points are
made together. The points are set with an allen wrench. I have forgotten
the best way to set these points by ear. Have a dwell meter that reads
0 to 90. I know how to hook it up, but not how to read it. How would
you guys best set these points.

Gap is .019, dwell is 28-32 and I seem to remember using a match book cover in a pinch with the points open on a lobe.

Google is your friend . . . Setting SB Chevy points.

Not only was a match book cover good for the spacing but the striking strip was good to polish old points so they would work
GM did a good thing with that allen wrench thing as it allowed you to set the dwell with the engine running vs just while cranking--------
That allen bolt and the piece it screws into also make a nice thing to put in the slot on the secondary throttle slot on a vacume holley to make them open earlier-----all these nice things then they went to hei----------------

All good info and appreciated. I think I can use the dwell meter now and get
them correct. This is an old engine I picked up just to rebuild stock for learning
purposes for my son.
I had forgotten the match book idea, but even they are almost gone now.
