Those things give clearance for width but don't affect the diameter which is going to be limited by the size of the tubs. Sorry Barb, I cannot tell you but a P285 R70 "wide oval" which was popular in that era measures right at 31" OD. Looking at Gen1 Monte sites the posts there seem to talk about tires in the 28" OD range which is not to say that's a limit.

It would be better to just change gears. imo

Welcome back Barb, and the monte looks pretty nice for the money IMO. Getting a 33" tall tire in there is going to require some cutting to the inner and outer wheel houses for sure. A gear change would be a better idea. The 700R4 is a great idea too. Good luck getting it in your yard!
