Because of the design Edelbrock AFB/AVS clones do not leak down like the Q Jets, nor would gunk in the fuel bowl ( dirt in 1 of the metering rods letting gas get by) cause it.

My experience is the most likely causes in order would be

    1. Float level set too high. The factory float level is often fine, but at higher altitudes or on very hot summer days after the engine is run and then shut off the gas will expand in the fuel bowls (heat soak) enough to flood over into the intake. This is especially true with ethanol fuels. The fix is to simply set the floats a little lower.

    2. The newer versions of the carbs sometimes have composite floats like the Q Jets, and like them overtime can soak up enough fuel to be too heavy and require replacement.

    3. Finally it could be the needle and seats need to be replaced.
