Power steering pump
I have a older style gm power steering pump with a Mustang II rack and pinion, is there any issues with pressure of the pump hurting the rack ?
Has anybody rebuilt one of these pumps. The front seal leaks a bit and I want to change it and maybe the big oring on the body. What your thoughts.
thanks.

seems like heidt's sells a pressure reducer for that

Speedway sells one also, allows you to use the GM pump with the MII rack.
I think I'd swap in a rebuilt pump if I was going to go after the big O-ring.

GM pumps are 800PSI.................most Mustang 2 R&P are 1200 psi..............

I agree on the relief valve.
As far as resealing, these pumps are pretty easy an and the kit is cheap. I usually remove the front seal by punching a small hole in it and threading a small screw to give me something to grip.
As far as the can, remove the bolts and pressure fitting grip the snout of the pump in a vice and wiggle the can off (if it doesn't come easily you might need to gently tap around the front lip with a small hammer.
Besides the big O ring on the can there are also O rings where the bolts and pressure fitting go. Lube everything up with ATF/PS fluid and reassemble.
