As I build my 40 ford p/u I'm wondering if I should use a Rag joint in the steering .
I have a power steering Rack & Pinion, 2 universal joints in the mix. Some where I heard that its good to take the shock out of things ? What say you !:confused:

If you don't use some type of harshness and/or vibration limiter, you'll likely wish you had. Although I consider an OEM type vibration reducer (rag joint) as the best part for the application, it doesn't necessarily have to be an OEM part. Borgeson makes an effective part, so I'm told.

On mine I have a universal at the base of the column, and a second one at the steering box with a DD shaft between, no vibration reducer. I haven't noticed any problem, but my car is not a quiet cruiser.
One of the popular upgrades to the GM G Body cars is to replace the stock rag joint shaft with a jeep shaft that uses a U Joint on both ends. I did it on my 83 El Camino and have noticed no vibration issues and personally would not even consider going back to a rag joint.

I drove my '37 for several years with the Mustang II suspension before tearing it apart to rebuild the car. The power rack was linked directly to the GM steering column with no "vibration reducer". The steering was quick & a little sensitive but there was no vibration unless a tire was out of balance. I adjusted to the sensitive steering without a problem.
