the super big felt tip markers clean not messy dry fast goes on even no drips.cheap used them all the time just reworked a BBC dart intake laid out the ports use a 1/4 chisel tip marker covers fast . used markers all the time for valve seat lay out and to verify the valve to seat .i do not miss dykem slow drying . poor cover . drips . not many sell it . will not stick. will not take a sharp line many times ..what made it work good was taken out years ago.. so the new stuff is P.O.S. marker is far better then the last bottle of dykem i used that was over ten years ago :) last can of spray dykem was horrible
I would agree with Pat-I have two spray cans of Dychem that I bought about 5 Years ago, and I hardly use them-I buy Sharpies by the Box though (I should buy them by the Case!)-my Wife hates them-they end up in my back pocket and in the Wash!
If you were closer Jerry I would give them to you-
dollar store had red .blue markers with a 1/4 chisle tip .the markers on the end had a button were you could pump it if the marker tip dried up you just pump the button . they worked great should of pick up a case i never seen them anywhere

Look where the machinest in the profession will shop. For instance Fastenal: has Dykem in spray, felt tip, and brush on. See if you have a local store in phone book, if not look online for Fastenal.
yep there are some fastenal stores not far away and we have Grainger in 3 locations on different routes that I'm occasionally on
the point I wanted to make tho was no auto supply stores had it or even knew about it---------
about the only thing if you don't have specific model/year/make is steering wheel covers-----
I always start at NAPA because they seem to be about the only place left that will actually open a book and try to find what you're wanting. Yeah, for parts they always want the make/year/model, but for general stuff they have books and most of the guys know how to use them, unlike most of the other "name stores". Haven't tried them for specifically for Dykem layout fluid though....Quote:

I must admit I find it sad when I enter the local parts stores, look at the clerks and think 99% of them are so young they have never owned a car that had a carburator. Most are lost unless they can look up an application on the computer. The other day I had a young man insist that I give him the car make and model for a fan belt when I told him I want a 1/2"wide V belt 44" long. I told him the belts were labeled by the size. He insisted and finally gave him the car information, air conditioner belt on a 1940 Ford, with a 327 chevrolet using a Honda compressor. He got into a real huff and told me I was being rude and he would not wait on me, walked off. I got the manager who told me that he did also not know how to look up the belt. I asked if I could walk with him to the belts in back and I would show him something. Went directly to the correct belt by looking at the part numbers xx5-44 and explained any brands numbers showed the belt size. Don't think he ever spoke to the first young man who waited on me. It will be a long time before I ever am in that Pep Boys again.
Anyone that knows me realizes that I normally have the patience of Job! But when I was putting the third member in my 9 inch Ford rear end about ten years ago, I needed the copper washers for the bolts. So, I went to the local Ford dealership, walked back to the parts department, and told the guy what I wanted. He said, "I need a year and model number." I said, "All I want are the copper washers to bolt in a third member into a Ford rear end." With an attitude, he replied, "I can't help you if I don't have a year and model number." "Okay," I said, "1959 Ford." He responded, "We don't carry parts that old." Well, I blew up, it wasn't pretty, and then walked out. I called Randy's Ring and Pinion, and the rep said, "Why don't you just go to the local Ford dealership?" I told them the story and their response was, "You're kidding!" They sent them, and I had them three days later. I haven't been at the Ford dealership since, and I sure as hell wouldn't buy anything from them. I really hate dealing with morons.
Just thought that I would mention that one 1957-- part the ford truck parts department carries is the crush sleeve for the pinion gear--------of course you need to know that you ask for it for a 1999 F350 single rear wheel 2x4 7.3 turbo diesel with automatic trans, dual batteries, power steering/brakes--------part number B7A ----
Been there with the belt. Threw the belt on my Z28, coasted into an Auto Zone, tried to explain all the different motors/pulleys I have used in the car, they just roll their eyes and shake their heads. Frustration guage goes off the chart. They would not even try a random belt. Getting back to the markers/dye, have you tried the local welding supply? I think that was the last place I saw some.
