I have seen several 33 and 34 fords with dual pusher fans. I was planing on going with the regular single puller fan. I have a walker radiator. Should I just put the puller single fan in first and try it. Or should I just do both and get it done with overkill. My engine is an LT1 small block.
Most of the time, the reason you see pusher fans are for lack of space in front of the motor.It's not to say pusher fans don't work because I had a pusher fan on my pro street car and it worked fine.
If you have the room to mount a puller, then by all means do it. I do suggest getting a Spal fan. They have the least amonut of static pressure drop when attached to the radiator. You also want to have a fan that will span the core of the radiator .
sunsetdart is correct on all counts! Run a pulling fan if at all possible and cover as much of the radiator core with the shroud as you can. In my 34 I used the dual pulling fan setup and have never had an issue.
You absolutely DO NOT want to run both puller and pusher fans on the same radiator! You are simply blocking air flow through the finned tubes with one of them. The key to success is having a properly shrouded fan in place, so that every bit of air pulled or pushed by that fan is going through the fins. For an electric fan the easiest "shroud" is a piece of aluminum sheet that spans the radiator core with the sides folded down and attached to the outer supports, and a hole slightly smaller than your fan OD. The radiator on my '33 came from PRC with a SPAL puller fan mounted to just such a shroud, and I then added a SPAL fan controller for programmable set points.
I had a lot of trouble with fans with my sons car. I'm sold on FF Dynamics fans. They absolutely move a ton of air. Down side though, I think they only come in red.
