it has been my expierence that anything that is a " summitt " brand is a product by someone else that has a small flaw or blemish that would`nt pass the original manufactors quality standards but really has nothing to do with function .. i have used much summitt brand items with success ...
Lots of talk on car specific forums asking the same question. Some say that Summit took over the manufacture of the old Holley 4100 series carbs. Can't say if that's true or false but if you Google "who makes summit racing carbs" you'll be able to read a bunch.
Buy a Quick Flow, way better carb and adjustable in every way, not much in price either.
.
I guess that a carb would have to be a 'name' brand. I've purchased quite a few car items that have the Summit brand, but am always suspicious as to what quality controls are used on items like carbs and ignitions.
Those Quick Fuel carbs - had heard of them, just hadn't looked at their web site. They seem to cover about everything for a performance carb
One more comment about Summit. Lately I've been spending more time looking for other sources for parts. In prep for opening my Ford engine, I went looking for a one piece pan gasket for the early pan I'll be installing, head, intake and timing housing gaskets. I ended up sourcing them from Rock Auto Parts. The dollar savings were more then just a couple bucks - like almost 50% on just the pan and about 35% on the head gaskets plus shipping was at cost, not the Summit formerly "free shipping", but now a graduated scale. Yeah, I still like Summit, but not quite as well any more:
"Delivery and handling on all orders is non- refundable and based on your order subtotal. It's a big benefit to buy everything at once (delivery and handling is a lot cheaper than actual shipping costs), but you can't plan for emergencies, so the cost is lower for smaller orders.
$0.00-$24.99 $4.95
$25.00-$99.99 $9.95
$100.00-$249.99 $11.95
$250.00 and up $12.95"
Yeah, I was looking at those Quick Flows, too. Looks pretty nice for about the same cost.
My friend got a 650 double pumper summit carb and put on his 454. It's been on there for about 4 months and he loves it. No issues and he drives it in the cold.
A guy on another forum was complaining about the Summit carb he bought, he said the adjustments would back off and he'd have to readjust everything. Myself, I've had no experience with them. I do have a 850Q, Quick Fuel on my chevelle and other than needle and seat problems, it works great.
