Has anyone put power steering on one of these without changing the column??He wants P/S but dosen't want the wheel or column changed. Is there a gear box that would work?? I can cut the column and add a lower brg. then a viberation joint but can't find a box to put in??? I have done a number of these with a subframe but he dosen't want that.
there are some ps units that are in line with the column shaft--think they are used in some of the circle track cars
Well I have another question since I can't find a box that the pittment arm mounts on the left is there any reason why a P/S box wouldn't work mounted upside down??
I have put a saginaw steering box with stock coloumn on two of these. If you go to Ace Hardware and get the bearing for a lawn mower wheel that is three quarter inch ID and the locking collar that goes with it it will hold the steering shaft in place. Then weld your or bolt your steering joint or rag joint to the bottom of the shaft it should work. I can send pictures of the bearing and collar if you need them.
You've probably got things figured out already, but there are a few suppliers out there that make a PS kit that uses a late 70s-early 80s GMC/Chevy truck PS box. Here's one from Brothers, others have them...
