Im replacing my fuel pump on my 76 monza so i decided to drop the tank put new lines and all that on it so just for spite I opened the tank up and there is alot of junk floating around in the bottom of the tank. Whats some old tricks about the best way to clean that mess outta there?? the only thing i can think of is to pour a little gas in there , slosh it around, and dump it out a few times. ANY ADVICE????
A section of sash chain....has enough sharp edges to knock any loose stuff off the tank... drop it in and shake it around, and easily removed when done.
If the tank really cruddy inside it might be worth your time to take it to a radiator shop and have them clean it up. If there's a chance that any pinhole leaks have developed they can take care of those too.

Smashed glass out of like a side window on a car works great!!! Dump the shards in the tank, get a buddy to help you shake the tank around and it will loosen up all the crud and rust in the tank. I'd suggest a good tank rinse and sealer afterwards!!! Lots of companies make a good tank sealer, keeps all the old crud intact and when done according to the directions it lasts forever!
A lit torch works good,it'll clean everything in it,but seriously I've used nuts and bolts shaken well.Brian
I do think to have a rad shop clean it is a good idea.For one other thing to consider is what junk that is flushed of the tank,it would be their responsibility to dispose of and not yours which to do that properly would be a problem.
I do remember Monza's V8's which where 305's.What I don't remember is if those still had the block forged with the ability to mount a mechanical fuel pump.I saw you asking about that in the other thread and thought you might want to check that out.
After i dug into it and started looking , The crud in the tank wasnt stuck the actual tank was clean as a matter of fact, but the neck of the tank was HORRIBLE , i couldnt even clean it , I replaced it and went all rubber! Thanks for the tips tho incase I ever have to clean one
