Rock guard insert
Have a question about the installation of the rock guard insert for the '29-'30 Ford grille shell that Speedway sells.
How does that insert bolt to the shell? I don't see any holes in the shell for it. What am I missing? HELP!
Thanks, guys

I'm assuming that you mean that splash shield below the grille shell.
On each side, there are 2 bolts into the top of the frame horn. Then there are two more that have bolts that thread into the special bumper bolts inner side.bolts. Nothing attaches to the shell bottom - it 'floats' above that shield. This happens to be a '32 grille, but 28-32 are about the same as far as that item.
The attached photo shows the bumper bolts on the LHS, and the RHS shows the top 2 (kinda hard to see) as well as the 2 that are in the bumper bolt. The top two also serve as fender to frame attaching bolts:

No, I'm talking about the chrome grille insert in the shell.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
