There should be seams at each top corner. If you look along the edge at the corner there should be a screw going through the top bar to the uprights or a couple on the sides of the upright going into an L bracket coming down from the top bar. If it's an older or original they could be well rusted in and require very careful drill out.
I'm sure Bob's right on the L bracket joints. My reply was based on the description of the Speedway offering, where they say the piece is "solid". I anticipated that the method of installation would be to insert the rubber seal, run a piece of small rope around the U, and then with the frame on a solid flat surface put the glass on top, apply a gentle downward pressure and have a second set of hands pulling the rope out to roll the seal over the glass. It'll be easier if the top comes off.
A lot of the older windshield rubbers have a strip that gets tucked into a groove to create a wedge effect on the glass and body edge--sometimes this is like a separate rope that gets pulled out and sometimes it is just an formed edge that gets tucked into an receiving groove---looking very carefully you should be able to see it and if you do find it look for the end and pull it out at a 90 degree angle, then you can get the glass .
I suppose dynamite would be out of the question seeing as how you said he's a friend and all????:whacked::LOL::LOL::LOL:
