Question A cragslist 110 plasma cutter

I found what I think is a deal on a 110 plasma cutter. It will cut up to 1/4 and has a bunch of extra tips that comes with it for $350.Does the 110 models use more tips up faster??.What is the down side of the 110 models??.For my limited use I don't think I would ever be cutting anything more than 12 gauge cold steel panels.Anyone know what kind of 110 service I would need to run it.(yeah I know I could look on the unit, but I don't have it in front of me right now.)

mine is 220v the heavier the materiial you cut the better the tip has to be. You didn't mention dose it have its own air supply if not your supplied air has to be dry.and no oil. Also I haven't heard of any 110 units that cut 1/4" plate

Charlie-it doesn't have on board air.I need to finish piping my air lines and this would push me to take care of that.Do you or anyone know the thickness limit of a 110 cutter??.

1/16th to 3/16th of an inch clean cut ......and double pass at 1/4 inch.....at 1/4 you are maxing out the machine which is hard on the unit.

What brand is it? Our Thermal Dynamics 38 is 110 or 220 (we run it on 110) and rated for a max of 3/8, but realistically it does 3/16 well and is ragged beyond that.

    Don,
I got hooked up with this possible purchase while buying a used parts washer.I don't have the brand name in front of me at the moment.I do think it was the same brand as yours because that rings a bell to me.I would be using it mostly for body panels limiting to like a said 12 gauge or 14 gauge.I do have a line on a 26" jump shear also for $200.I was thinking between the two I would have almost anything I want covered. Also I have a 18" cut off saw and a horizon band saw for frame pcs.

One thing I was wondering about is there a duty cycle on plasma cutters like the ones on welders??.

It depends on the output amps.....less than 30amps, all 110 volt models run clean at 3/16th max after that.....you are overworking the unit for nothing....at best 30 amps or more is better.......... Same with migs. ....the 110volts say they are good up to 1/4 but you are running the unit at max.....I just bought a mig and spent the extra money and bought the 220 Lincoln power mig 180.....the most I will be using the unit is about 70% of its max.....easier on the machine as well as on the amp draw.

For what you are wanting to cut that one should be fine, and the price is certainly not out of line, if it works ok.

Just don't wear shorts and tennis shoes when using it...........I'm still wearing scars on the tops of my feet from sparks going down my shoes ! Them sparks find their way into the worst places.

OK-dumb question senior moment.I am finally going to get a second look at this this morning. What is the max gauge conversion to thickness in steel and aluminum?

I also found a Miller Zip cut 220 unit that I am second in line to look at.Thing is those went back to the min 1980's and I don't know how old it is even through the seller is saying it has a yr old gun.Looked on a search on line that some of the older zip cutters by Miller had electric problems.

Well I bought it this morning. It is a Thermal Dynamics Dynapak 110.It says on it Secondary rated current current 20 @ 70 volts. Then it says open voltage 150 @ 80 volts.I am guessing it has a cutting rating of 70 volts??. Good working unit with 6 extra tips which the seller said they are expensive.Best part is I got it for only $250.00.I think I got a deal. What you guys think??.
