Ford 429 only running on 4 cylinders

This has probably been discussed here before, but I couldn't find much on it by searching.

Newly rebuilt 429 w/holley 4160 carb is only hitting on cylinders 1,4,6,7.
1. pulled plugs 2 & 8 and they are clean and dry, no gas or gas odor.
2. pulled plugs 1 & 6 and they are black like it is getting to much gas.
3. checked to make sure plug 2 was getting fire and it is.

Where can I find a diagram of the fuel flow of the intake manifold.

Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Takes 3 things to make an engine run, compression, fuel, and ignition.

Do you have fire at the plugs on the cylinders that aren't firing? What ignition does it have, points or electronic? Even though it's "just rebuilt", how much compression do you have on each cylinder?

you probably have ab 180 manifold--those are the cylinders that feed off one side of the carb---end cylinders on one side-middle 2 on other side

Yuor carb probably is plugged up on one side--

Dave, Thanks for the reply. Yes there is fire at the plugs of the dead cylinders. Compression is 150.

Jerry, Thanks also for the reply. The carb has been rebuilt.

It's firing on every other cylinder in the firing order. That means that one side of the carb is not delivering fuel, or you have a vacuum leak on that half. Pull the carb and give it a good inspection.

Problem resolved,
Ended up replacing the carb. Now it is running on all 8.

Good to hear you have it working right Vern!!! Come on back with some pics of your car and hang out for awhile!

I bought a 59 Olds for the motor for my 53 Olds and when I got it running it would only run on 4 cylinders,someone before me soldered up one side of the carb which I think was to try to get better gas mileage. That drove me nuts trying to figure it out and at the same time had a 55 Olds doing the same but it was a chunk of dirt in one jet.
