vintage air

my vintage air has a leak in the system somewhere,stay's charged about 2-3 weeks.has anybody had much exp with leak detector,worried about poss stain from dye.:eek:

Any ac shop can wave that wand over the system to isolate the leak. I would think for a nominal fee they can do that for you, and it would be better than maybe staining your car with the dye. Just a thought.

Yep Itoldyouso got it right. No mess no worries.

I've still got a detector down in the basement. Still works last I checked. I used it back in the R-12 days, I'm not sure if it will sniff the new stuff, I've been out of that loop for 30+ years.

thanks guys,that was my thought too,just hate to let anyone over my car but I need to get over it.there's a local hot rod shop that I,ve heard really good things about.Time to bite the bullet.

The dye you are talking about is not going to run out like you are thinking. it will stain the hose maybe , but all the dye i have ever used you needed a black light to see. I would start off looking for oily spots on hoses comp. evap. cond. dryer. If it leaks that bad should be showing some kind of oil. I have also used soapy water to find leaks that are that bad. If the dye runs that fast out of your system that it would fall on carpet it would be no problem in finding leak. hope this helps.

my detector can find any leak. it is one sensitive little sucker. it will be a loose fitting or a cut o-ring. if put together dry the o-rings will pop when tightened .
