    Your steering box should look like the one below........kind of a strange duck. There are a bunch of them on Ebay, like this one:

    Not trying to spend your money, but if it were me I would bite the bullet and spring for the money to just buy a new or rebuilt proper steering box and be done with it. My logic is that steering is one of the two things you can't take chances with (brakes being the other ) and it is so much easier to just buy the proper part, install it, rather than trying to modify something else to work. Your time is worth money too.
