They were still mechanical hook up....!
Then mine is missing the kick down linkage, 406Rich.
Great that means I gotta put it on ramps and crawl under it.
My least favorite thing now that I am having a hard time walking or getting up.
Do you know if it's a cable or a metal rod?
I guess I could call Eklers on monday to find out.
I gotta order the part anyway, I just got a new intake and carb
and didn't see any kick down on the old set up.
So I got to wondering about what it was missing, and now I know.
Or at least have a idea whats missing.

They used cable, is it turbo 350 or 400 ...? I think they are the same. Maybe its just hanging down below....
406Rich; You know I never thought the thing shifted right.
It's the wives and I have only drove it a couple time in the last 5 years.
All I have done is spent money on that thing trying to fix all the vaccum problems.
Bought a new wirring harness and took it to a vette shop and he just butcherd the
3 hundred doller harness. spent a couple grand on trying to get the vaccum door
for the wipers to work and it still does not. This car is a money pit.
Now I decided that I am just gonna get a longer hood and put on it to save money and time. Every time the door fails to open it burns up the wiper motor and the alt at the tune of about 400 bucks. I doubt that the cable is intact after 5 years, but I don't think it was ever on the car since we got it. I am gonna have to see what's in it as far as a trany because I realy don't know. When I put it back together it will be right. I might just have the motor redone while I am at it, since the valves seam to float when you rev it up. I just ain't in shape for this kind of stuff right now. I'll get it figured out thanks for the help Rich. I'll take some photo's and post them this week.

400's are electronic kickdown-350's are mech
What you are looking for Kurt is a cable that goes into the area right above the pan on the passenger side of the transmission. It has a hook on the end that catches a little tab inside the hole and then it fastens down to the transmission with one little screw. It only moves the tab up and down a little ways and connects with a slotted end to the bottom of your carb.

From the Corvette VIN codes it should be a turbo400 unless someone swapped in something else over the years...

As bigdude says off of the carb / linkage, sometime in the early seventies they had moved the switch to the pedal linkage at or under the dash, I know for sure on the trucks they had.

Well here are some photo's, not very good there is not alot of room for photo's under there. after 15minutes I was able to get up with the help of the wife and a old shop bar stool. HE! HE! HE! I didn't see a kick down either.

Have someone look under the dash as well. Just a dual pole switch...
I looked up in an older chilton manual---the 72 vett switch is supposed to be on the carb---73 and later under the accerator pedal
Kurt by the pictures you have a TH400, you can tell by the location of the vacuum modulator on the passengers side of the transmission.
I don't know if this hepls or not, but here is a picture of the kickdown switch Cadillac used in 73 with a Q Jet, I don't know if the Vette used something similiar as I've seen a lot of different configurations over the years.
In the case of the Cad, there is a notch in the throttle arm on the Q Jet the lever sits in.
One terminal is connected to a switched 12V source, and the other connects to the kickdown terminal located on the drivers side of the transmission.
I've got 4 photo's of my old carb that's off.
Is this thing on the side of the carb an idle sencer or the kick down.
In any case nothing or wire was hooked up to it.

That would be a fast idle or anti-diesel solenoid (usually used with AC to kick the idle up when the compressor is engaged, or to close the throttle plates completly and prevent run on on some emissions controled engines).
I'm thinking the best place to find out what the kickdown switch for this particular should look like my be in a parts book if you can locae on somewhere.

Vara, You might think about someone else other than Ecklers for those parts. I have had such bad experiances with them I just gave up. One of the very best places I found for my C-3 Vette parts was Zip Corvette Parts. The ship very fast and actually have customer service. Might give them a try.

Kurt, I dug around on the internet a little to see if I could find any more info, and it may be that your switch is on the throttle under the dash, or on the carb. 72 could be an early 73 type, which is on the pedal. It will probably have a pink wire attached to it, from what I read.

I got a friend of mine to come over and help me look around.
I made a little headway any how, we found a plug that was not conected to the trany just over the shift linkage. I figure that to be the revers lights. Then we found a cable from the shift linkage on the trany that came up and hooked on to a little arm bracket
just under the brake cylinder on the fire wall. I found out that this is also for the revers lights. So I guess the revers light are not working HE! HE! HE! Still looking for the the kick down, I guess I am gonna have to look for that pink wire. HUH!!! Don.
I guess I'll be fixing some extra stuff now. HUH! Corvettes you just can't stop at fixing one thing. Remind me of that old potato chip commercail you just can't stop at one!!!
I also put a couple more photo's up of my new stuff thats going on the motor.

Oh did anyone notice on page two how the area around the fuel cap fills up with water, clear over the gas cap.
That's suppossed to drain, I guesss I'll be fixing that too. Right I get done draining the tank again.
