1951 CHEVY 1/2 TRUCK
Has anyone filled in the hole on the fire wall where the cowl vent tube runs out and redirected it under the dash and out between the right fender and the inner fender? I have filled the hole and will soon be looking to see the best spot to drill through.

John..........I have filled the holes in my firewall in my 50 Plymouth wagon as well. Am going to re-route the tube the same way,taking it to the right side and out. I am going to downsize the tube too, that way the hose can be smaller and easier to route.
If we seal the cowl vent in a effort to minimize the amount of water running into it, will that close off any venting of the tube and stop water from nunning through it? Just wondering...
What I did in my 40 Chevy was I connected it w/rubber hose to hard line then ran it over to the passenger side, down the kick panel & then throw the floor. Looked like a AC drain when I got done....joe

To late for welding. I'm all painted up now. My guess is the only way to keep water out is to weld and with that option out I'll just run the hose out behind the fender.Quote:

John I put mine right where the toe board met the floor up against the kick panel.
Will that put the hose between the inner and outer fenders? Also, could I put the hole a bit higher on the toeboard and still be within that area?Quote:

No actually it will be exiting through the floor board, but you could run it through the inner & outer fender if you like, it shouldn't matter as long as it's downhill from the vent drain tube so the water drains.
I'll get a pic later today to give you an idea where I put mine.
The pic will be from inside Large Marge BUT I will be doing the same thing w/that drain.
I will show you how I had(in the 40) & will have (Marge)the tube running to.
I will bend a piece of tubing to show you..joe

I Teed the cowl vent drain into the AC drain, and ran them both out the right side about an inch above the bottom of the toe board. I used 1/2" aluminum tubing painted black, and tucked behind the firewall insulation.

I think I'll figure a way to use the largest size brake line and punch it out as high up on the toe panel as possible and drain into the area between inner and outer fenders.
