Glide case question

Now that my motor build up is well under way i am starting to talk to trans shops about building the trans for my car. First heres a little info on the car/motor that the trans is going behind.

The car will wiegh about 2800#'s and the motor is a blown&injected 540 that should be putting out around 1000hp.

My question is this i talked to the local trans shop that does most of the high performance cars around this area and told him about my car/motor combo and he gave me a price to build a glide with trans brake that seemed pretty decent cost wise compared to what i was figuring it would cost. After talkin futher i found out the reason why is... he is talkin about using the factory glides case not a dedenbear or simuliar case.

He told me they have built alot of glides with factory cases for high HP drag cars and as long as i have a mid plate then i should not have any case problems,which i will be running front and mid plates since its a tube chassis car.

Is this true? has anyone run a simular combo with a factory glide case?

The dedenbear case would add about $800-900 but if it's neccesary then i will use it. This is the first motor of this power level i have built so i could use some experianced info on the trans case.

Guess I would pop the extra bucks for the leg and foot protection. That much horse can easily pop an old fatigued glide case even with the plates supporting the motor. Like Tech said, it's your call. I would most definitely get one or the other.

I've been doin' the same research. Talked to people at the National drag exopo, called some aftermarket trans co.'s and talked to some who have ownd' em'. I am also headin' in the blown/ injected direction. I been told I can run a stock case Ifn' I want to see how many peices the BBC will make out of it. HEHEHE:LOL:

I'm plannin' to go ultra glide or dedenbear case. I figure overkill is not a bad thing when it comes to rear end, trans. and bottom end of the engine.

I wuz also told at that drag expo by a Strange Engeneering guy that a rear end street gear with sticky tires won't handle 1,000 + H.P. He says I need to go to a pro gear. Prob. with that he says a pro gear won't hold up to the heat that builds up in street use. Have you heard this or was he jus' doin' the sales pitch thang on me??? Right now i'm leanin' toward a pro gear set with a cooler and oil pump? The aluminum case has a bung hole tapped in it above the ring gear and another on the bottom for a drain. Thinkin' maybe suck the oil off the bottom run it thru a filter then pump it thru a small cooler then in the top hole so it drains on the ring gear. Dono should that cool the gears enough? Strange dude says the problem is the pro gears are soft so they will flex under load rather than break. So, being a soft material the ring and pinion may tend to wear. Got any info. on this delema?:CRY:

Good question, Goat. The cooler and filter work good, have done that before. How about synthetic gear lube, does it help the cooling process?

Streets; How is that rear end set up in your ghost? Since I don't have a rear cover, could I drill and thread the rear end in a low spot for the suction side hose, some where it won't hurt it or make it weak? 2nd; Can I use the fill hole in the rear end to run the pressure hose in? 3rd Do you know which hose on the turbo 400 is the pressure hose? This way I don't have to make a mess to find out. 4th How is your circulation/ trany lines set up, pressure side of trany to rear end then to trany cooler back to trany or How? Oh the rear end is a stock one in my 69 caddy Fleetwood with sealed bearings and the axles are removed from the side no C-Clips.5th Whats the name of the rear end. { GM } ? 6th Would that be a nice trany diagram for some one like me to have? You guys bring up some very good points....i did go with the bulletproof parts on the lower end and rearend so i guess i shouldnt start getting cheap when it comes to the trans;)

Deff. will do some more searching to see what kinda prices i can get on the dedenbear or ultra glide case.

Pro70 as far as the pro gear go's.....DTS did my dana60 for me and they told me that the pro gears are just what you said,their alot softer then the street gears and they can take a HUGE amount of HP and not break but they will wear out VERY fast on the street.

I had them use the richmond street gears in my rear as they told me they have built many street gear setups for cars in the HP range as you and i are building.....but you cany always believe everything you hear so i guess theres only one way to find out. I do like the cooler idea you are talkin about though.

Also pro70 we need to talk sometime,it sounds like we are building very simuliar combos and i would like to ask you a few things about injection....never had a injected motor before so i'm not sure of the setup.

Your question was fer Streets, but I came across it so I'll take a stab. My plan is to run a closed loop system just for the rear end. Suck the fluid off the bottom run it through a filter then to a small cooler then to the pump and back to the top of the rear end. If you hookl the tranny to this system it will just pump the rear end full of fluid since the tranny is a pressurized system.

This is sorta' a learn as you go project for me toooo:CRY:
I have an enderle injection Bug Catcher with an EFI conversion. Salesman says he's got one on his street car an' it'z been very reliable. Sooo, is that true or is he jus' bein' a salseman???..... Time will tell.
I had a Hilborn mechanical set up on a small block way back when, That wern't toooo cool. Spent most of me time adjustin'. But, when it was set right it wuz. a snappy lil' thang. Problem wuz, 1 cloud would pass by or wind change direction and it wuz back to the shop fer adjustments. :LOL: :LOL:
Once I get all the spec. down on the engine. the guy'z spoz' ta' map it fer me so it'l run. Then I got to get it fine tuned on the dyno. Got a guy here that builds motors for most of the local racerz'. Got all the kewl toys to set it up and hez' very very picky bout' doin' stuff right. SOMEDAY.:LOL: :LOL:

Pro70z28; I believe Streets has the rear end and the trany tied in together. I though that he had mentioned that he could change the fluid in his rear end by changing the trany fluid. Don't quote me on this,but that's what I think he said in a differant thread. Guess we will have to get him to responed to this. What kind of pump were you gonna run to pump the rear end fluid around. Were you gonna adapt a electric fuel pump or some thing like that or is there a special pump for trany fluid. And what's the best way to set this up. What size hoses and where would you get the filter adapter? Is there a adapter kit for doing this with the adapter,fittings, lines, pump and mounting brackets? thanks

I am still in the thinkin' stage on this one. Have to find a pump that can handle tranny fliud - Seals n' stuff ya no.

Well Streets and ProZ, I think I've got most of this figured out, but about the spray nozzel, what size?what angle? and will it thread directly in to the rear end case or will I have to adapt it to another fitting and then tap that in to the case. The only reason I'm asking about that is I want to make sure I have enough clearance,so It's not touching or rubbing up against any thing. thanks
