Pulling Wires

Fully boxed rails, 1/2" threaded hole on the outside of each frame rail about 2' back for headlight wires, and 1/2" holes on top 30" back from those holes at the inside front edge of the body on both sides. I have tried a shop vac pulling a string, no joy; and played with two hooked wires trying to get attachment. Anyone have any neat time saving tricks for getting the first string/wire point to point?

Roger, I've always used an old speedo cable - shove it thru, tape yer wires to it and pull back.
Job done.

I'll try a piece of e-brake cable I've got laying nearby - a bit larger but a good idea if it is not too stiff. The trick is going to be getting hold of the loose end through the hole in the side of the rail, and then turning the 90 degree angle without losing it. Thanks for the idea.

Rog, I'm talkin about just the speedo cable, pulled out of the jacket.
Stuff it thru then use needle nose pliers to pull it out @ the other end, attach yer wires and pull back.

I know this is a little late now, but I weld tubing inside the frame in all areas where wiring, brake lines, and fuel lines go. That way when it comes time it is really easy to do this and you don't have to worry about chaffing any of the wiring. If you look at my One way to build a 32 sedan you can see what I mean.

I understood the cable only approach, and thought of an e-brake section I cut off a while back but that cable is 1/8" and much too stiff. I may drop by the air field and pick up a piece of old control cable that my son took off of a plane. This may also be an excuse to pick up a set of those really long nosed pliers that I've never had a need for. :LOL:

This is the time when we see the real value in some of your ideas. I also thought how easy it would have been to run a pull cord before I boxed the front rails, but your tubing approach would be the best.

I use the same method Ken, works everytime :)

If you have an old piece of romex (house wiring) wiring laying around strip it out and the wires in it are solid core. they work pretty good as substitute for a fish tape in short runs.
