Building a 37 convertible with an LT1, at the point of exhaust and cant decide. I definatley do not want loud, looking for a low rumble that I only hear when I want to. Will be duals without a crossover. Would like a low rumble without a droan, this is a convertible so I dont want loud and annoying. Any suggestions??
I'm running repop Plymouth Hemi mufflers on my 57, nice sound at idle and quiet going down the road (till you nail it).
Spintech's or Hushpower by Flowmaster.
Nice lo rumble, and not loud.

I've always preferred Dynomax super turbos.
Nice sound at idle, not too loud on the road and a real rumble when you nail it.

I noticed the LT1 and in Camaros, Hooker is prety much the top choice for best sounding. some complainit is too quite, but it seems to have what you are looking for - low rumble, nice tone when getting on it. That's what I have on my '35, BUT the few minutes at a time I have let the engine run something is not sounding right about these mufflers so at the moment I can not reccommend them.
X2 on the Dynamax turbo mufflers.
Corsa Pacecars sounds real nice on my convertible vette, the Touring is a little more mellow. Neither have a droan in my opinion and both will talk to you when you want.
I'm like Mike and Geezer, always liked the Hemi and Turbo type mufflers. They have a nice deep sound that lets you know there is something under the hood, but not obnoxiously loud. I've got a new set sitting on the shelf that I plan to put under my 46 when I do it.
I'm running mufflers from Stainless Specialties on my 27 and am reusing them even though they are over 20 years old. They buffed out like new and the insides were perfect, so I guess stainless really is forever. They make several levels of sound, I picked the one in the middle, and everyone told me they were too quiet, but I liked them. If you never wanted to buy another set in your lifetime, I would recommend these, without question.

I have to go along with Don. I have always run Stainless Specialties mufflers and you can order the sound you want.
Think about this. Use nice quiet mufflers and put in a couple of electric cutouts... THEN it will be loud when you want it to be loud and quiet when you don't... A friend of mine did this on his '05 Mustang and it is very handy for "stealth" mode. Especially when the man is around...

The muffler should have large enough passages to allow good flow through it and yet have enough sound-deadening material to muffle the exhaust note. The longer the better. Here is the type of muffler I have always depended on to do the job. Run exhaust pipes out to the back of the vehicle. Terminating them under will result in a drone that will make you crazy.
