Today, I was offered a tall deck 427 engine that was built for street/strip (10.25:1 Compression) for $900. I was told it ran 11.80 in the quarter one year ago before it was removed. It has an intake that I have never seen before. It is aluminum and the normal location of your carburetor, was moved forward and turned to the side on an angle. I was told the name of it but somehow I forgot. Can anyone tell me what the heck it is?
1st thing........$900??? is it gold plated? It is a good manifold and it is an old school design. They were out years ago and I forget what they were called or who made them. But they are certainly not worth $900.
Also , the manifold is only a small part of why the car ran an 11:80. You do not buy a manifold based on the fact the car ran a certain number. The rest of the mpotor probably played a big part in running that number.
If you pay that money for that manifold, I have some beach front property in Kansas city I would like you to look at.
No, you misread his post. The entire engine is $ 900.00. He is just curious about the intake as he has never seen one like it. (Me neither). I don't play with BBC, so not sure if $ 900 is a good deal or not. Pat or someone else should know.

Sounds like an Edelbrock torquer.
Is the carb flange rotated so the front edge is turned about 30 degrees toward the passenger side?:D
yep it a old torker intake i had one back in 1980 i think every one had one at one time :)
yep---edelbrock turned the carb on the manifold to correct some mixture distribution issues---Chevy had a special Holley that had some warts ot tabs cast onto the booster venturis to correct the mixture for the different corners--edalbrock turned the carb to eliminate that need
Thanks for all your help. The carburetor pad is more toward the passenger side on the intake. I feel 500 + hp engine for $900 is a pretty good deal.
Duh, I said I had never seen one but I actually OWNED one. :o Had a Torker on the 351 Cleveland in my 68 Mustang. It was more of a strip manifold as I recall, single plane. I read his decription wrong and thought the carb was turned 90 degrees sideways, not just angled.
