I have a 84 c-10 that I would like to put a kill switch in but am a little confused on the wiring. If I splice the switch into the batt. hot wire on the dist. would the switch have to be on constant ON for the engine to run. If running will it die if I flip the switch? Any ideas on a better way to wire it up? I found this but think its kind of a lot of trouble when a regular switch will do the same. Its a magnetic trigger switch.

Yes, if you flip the switch, the engine should die! I think the deal you linked to is way overkill for such a simple task. All your trying to do is interupt the circuit with a switch that only you know the location to. This is one of those times for the KISS principal! My point 02...:)Quote:

Including a seperate switch for the brake lights.
That way if some one does get it and they don't know the brake lights are not working it will draw police attention to pull it over and check things out. I have done that with many of my car trailers as well in the past. I would put the switch some where on the trailer it's self. [Hidden]

OT, but reminds me of when I was a service manager at a Chrysler dealership back in the early 60's. Highway Patrol ran 1960 Plymouths (Hemis) and when putting a new one in service, they would bring it in and we would do just that. That way, if the met you on the highway and suspected speeding they would flip the switch so you couldn't look in your mirror and see them doing a quick stop so they could do a u - turn and clock you.Quote:

The question to me is what is your intent? Are you truly looking for an old school "kill switch", like on a motorcycle, or are you intending it to be a form of security, i.e. hide the switch so that the vehicle won't start without the switch being "on"? If you are looking for a form of security you can break the wire to the coil or the fuel pump, and instead of a toggle switch you can use a key lock switch - then if someone figures out your circuit they still must defeat the key, assuming you have it mounted in a way that the wires are difficult to impossible to get to on the back side.Quote:
