Oil sending unit leaking

So last night we got the engine back in the 49 Lincoln and got it running good but we noticed an oil leak from the oil pressure sending unit on the back by the dizzy and manifold. It's a mechanical style with a copper line that just screws into the block by way of what appears to be a compression fitting. That fitting screws onto an adapter that looks similar to a brake bleeder screw, but it's obviously not, but looks like it.

I noticed oil coming out from where the tube goes through the fitting, is there a gasket that's supposed to be in there? Where can I find something to fix this?

Try tightening the fitting down and if that doesn't work you'll probably have to replace the compression fitting.

Most use an 1/8 inch compression fitting. The barrell may be deformed from over tightning or tube cracked. A good auto parts or hardware store should have the 1/8 nut and barrel. Also check the threads those brass fittings are real easy to booger up the thread on em. I usually go to ACE and get half a dozzen barrels, they are small and if droped hard for my old eyes to find, and a couple of nuts when I put an engine back in. I hate oil leaks...........:3MILE:
I probably would just replace fitting in block, 1/8 npt x 1/8 inch compression, and cut about an inch of tube and go with new fitting barrel and nut. Hope this helps.

You can also replace with it an Autometer braided steel line. But you will have to change the fitting to adapt. But it is an 1/8' NPT and I think you even get one in the kit.

Thanks guys for all your help, I was at Advance Auto getting some things for the car and came across an entire kit that came with new fittings, the adapter that screws into the block and more than enough copper tubing. This kit did it! No more leaks! I see the gauge packs that come with the nylon line so if anyone is wondering, there is a kit that usually right next to it on the shelf with copper tube.
