Theyr'e too wide, Ya need a 74-77 Maverick 8 inch it's 56 inches axle flange to axle flange and they are gettin hard to find.
use a late model V8 Explorer type rear has disc set up and is 561/2 width (dust shield to dust shield available in several ratios and with locker dif as well
I would check some of streets old threads, he did a big list of rear ends on one of his threads!

I was going to use a ranger rear in my 28 model a but as I found out the axle is offset a little to one side so I picked up a mustang 8.8 instead and used two of the longer ranger axles I believe left side ones to make it 5 lug and the ranger drums they all use 28 spline axles so the interchange was easy. I am not certain but I could have swore the mustangs width was around 52 inches back to back...this web site might help you http://mjbobbitt.home.comcast.net/mustang/5lug.html
