Wiring question
This may be the incorrect forum for my question, but since my build is somewhat custom, who better to ask than hotrodders.
I'm building a Jeep YJ from the ground up, the power plant is a 96' corvette LT1 w/ its 4L60e tranny. I have the computer and engine harness from the vette as well.
My question is about connecting the wiring from the firewall back, I know I can buy a harness, but I'm still stuck splicing into the Jeep harness, my skill and patience level will prevent me from accomplishing this correctly.
Here is my idea, what if I get a steering column from the same year vette (assuming it matches up) and an interior harness from same, this would leave me fuel delivery and lights to wire. I could even fab the instrument cluster into the jeep, this would make most everything plug-in ( I can handle that)
Assuming I can mate the vette column into the jeep, does anyone see any issues with this idea?
Cost wise, vette stuff vs. aftermarket harness are about the same, the vette way also solves my gauge issues.
Thanks,
Rick

I believe the only real issue you will have is with the steering column and how you plan to fabricate the intermediate shaft between the longer corvette column and the jeep steering box. Otherwise, the rest should not be an issue. You'll most certainly have one very unique Jeep when you are done. Take lots of pictures and post them here so you can document your work, as we love to see progression of peoples projects.

I would get a painless type kit specifically for the lt1. might cost a little coin but will plug in all your sensors, then splicing to the jeeps wiring for lights and crap are pretty simple, use the diagram they send you plus a good jeep schematic and a volt meter and go wire by wire. a column swap seems like a harder way. I would also check with the jeep forums and offroad guys, I bet they have a ton of info on this swap. good luck

Painless now makes harnesses to swap engines into certain vehicles---includes engine and wiring for the car(jeep)

Check out Pirate 4x4 forum http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/ I strongly suggest that you do an exhaustive search of their forum and that you not post general questions. The guys on Pirate are ten times worse than the HAMB on rookie questions, but there is no better place to find Jeep information for hard core projects. They've done it all before, but they don't play nice
