antifreeze on intake manifold

Last year I put a new Edelbrock performer intake manifold with a 600 cfm Carb on my 37 chevy truck with a 305 engine bored .060 over. I have been having problems trying to find a leak that leaving antifreeze on my intake manifold. I re-torqued the bolts thinking they had come loose. Still leaks. I put new radiator hose on. still leaks. Put new. Put new thermostat housing on but it still leaks. What happens is that after I drive it it will sit for hours and nothing happens. I've watched it for 8 hrs. and couldn't see a leak. The next morning the manifold would have about an ounce of antifreeze sitting on the front of the intake. I've thought maybe the water pump was shot but I can't find any leakage there. Any ideas? Bart

Chevy 37; I'm not sure how cold it is where you are but it sounds like it's trying to freeze or expand, I mean you said it's sitting for 8 hours and no leaks. You might have a bad intake manifold Gasget letting anti freeze up thru a bolt hole and puddling on top of the intake. Do you have a heater hose that's in that area? I would look for pin holes first. If it's none of these, the intake could have a hair line crack in it. Let use know what you find. the last guy found it was comming up thru a bolt hole from a bad intake gasget that had rotted in between a water port and the bolt hole.

Thanks Guys for the info. When it warms up here I'll take my truck out of storage and try what you stated. I don/t think its the manifold or gasket but maybe the new thermostat housing I put on.

Did you put one of those cheap chrome thermostat housings on it,if you did you will need to sand the chrome off where it comes in contact with the manifold. I read in a magazine somewhere the chrome wont allow it to seal properly. Jeff

Vegas It started leaking after I put the manifold on. After 1 week I retorked the bolts but it still leaked

Chevy 37; I take it that It was used. It's probably like Streets said. You need to have it checked and maybe they can fix it? Shave it or some thing. Then use a thicker intake gasget on it. Please let me know what you find. I'm curious now.

If I were in your shoes I would get a cooling system pressure tester[ wonder if this is one of the tools that "Auto Zone" loans? I would put the system under pressure cold and watch it. I bet you find out exactly whats happing. Joe
