I am looking for two fittings to connect the hard fuel lines to my tank. I need the tank end 1/4" pipe thread 90 degrees to 3/8" for one and 5/16" for the other. Rock Valley where I got the tank only has AN, I checked the local auto parts store and looked through my Speedway catalog and I can't seem to find these...any ideas? Also where can I get a fuel cut off valve?

check your local plumbing supply store. they usually carry odd sized fittings that might help you.
what kind of fittings do you want??? 45*flare? Compression? or inverted flare?
Any good plumbing or industrial hardware store will stock a BALL VALVE. They come in different sizes and have NPT threads. Cheap, and they work great. They also do not have the restriction "when open" like an Earl's valve.Quote:

Ace Hardware is a good source for plain old pipe thread fittings....
ANY napa or carquest will have those fittings in there brass assortmant----still, if you want an exact answer---which fittings do you want??? compression, 45*flare or inverted flare??????
excuse my ignorance Jerry, but I'm not sure the differences exactly. I believe I am looking for 45 degree flare fittings to go with the advance auto pre flared lines.
You can go to the hardware store like stated above in a pinch. You best bet would be like Jerry said Napa or other autoparts store. Get a Summit catolog they will list them and you could buy from there also. The hardware store will carry them BUT the internal openings will be small which could restrict your fuel to engine at wide open throttle. It will cause all kinds of trouble when this happens . You can raise pressure , adjust jets, and replace fuel filters with bigger ones and it wont help. If the fuel cant get through the fittings at WOT, it just cant.
Take the fitting or tubing you have to Napa or other real parts store and tell the guy behind the counter what you are trying to do. I bet you will get what you need.

if they are preflared lines they MUST have the nuts already on the tube---most likely they are inverted double flared and they should have the fittings you need
ok thanks everyone...I tried NAPA yesterday, but they're closed Sunday. I went by a local good ole boy auto parts store and bought a couple fittings, but I must have gotten bad info from Rock Valley on the fitting size into the tank because 1/4" is too small. I'll have to return these and try another size.

you will need ( if the tank is npt thread ) probaBLY a 90 degree, 3/8 pipe female x 3/8 inverted flare to fit the preflared lines available---
tip of the day--don't talk to a kid at the counter, look for the oldest guy-----

I can't think what that would look like. would it not look like the one at summit just a different size? it seems like this one would work find as far as going on the line and into the tank (once i get the right size). the only thing i'm not sure about is how it all matches up inside the fitting. do you by chance have a picture of what you are describing? thanks
What are you going to use for fuel lines????if it is the preflared lengths that are available at every auto parts store-----it will be an inverted double flare---according to what you have said you need a 5/16 and a 3/8----
if this is correct you will need a fitting that is 90 degree, 3/8 npt pipe thread by 3/8 inverted flare and one that is 90 degree, 3/8 pipe thread by 5/16 inverted flare
They stock these lines with the inverted flare fittings on the tube before DOUBLE FLARING and you will use however many it takes to run from the tank to the engine and back plus the connectors to join the various lengths---they come in 4, 5 ft lengths
If this info doesn't help you get what you need find a new parts store

IFF stands for Inverted Flare Fitting, NPT is National Pipe thread.

I think I am on the same page now. I have the lines already and have them bent up so I am okay there I am just trying to get it hooked up to the tank. I now know I need a 90 degree 3/8" and 5/16" IFF to a ?? NPT. The fittings I got (right or wrong) are the 1/4" into the tank they were supposed to be, but are too small. now I just have to figure out what size into the tank (those speedway ones say 1/8 which should still be too small) and double check the ones I previously bought are IFF to NPT and I will be okay. Thank you both very much!
ok so I have the right fittings and now as it turns out when they are tight in the tank they face towards the back of the car making it very difficult to connect the lines...
Is there a fitting that can go into my tank and then put the 90 degree fitting into that so I can tighten it all down and still be able to connect the lines? will I just have to run braided lines to the tank? why do I have this problem??
You don't have a problem-----
there are a couple of things you can do to be able to get a 90 degree fitting end up pointing the way you want----in your case- maybe a smaller size npt and use an adapter bushing which would give you two sets of threads to use to balance out where the fitting ends up
If you take the 1/4 npt fittings you have(had) and use a couple of 1/4 to 3/8 npt adapter bushings you could tighten the combo to point the right way
When working with NPT pipe is takes an experienced pull/twist to know what is tight enough to work and/or can you turn it another full turn to still end up in the right direction.
Experience is a wonderful teacher if you can afford the tuition ( or so somebody said)
ok so option #1 is get a smaller fitting, say 1/8" and get an adapter bushing (threaded insert?) in order to be able to tighten to the right location
option #2 i'm not real sure I understand...what would a 1/4" to 3/8" npt adapter bushing look like?
experience is where I am lacking, but it definately seems like the right direction is not tight enough and it doesn't allow for one more complete turn. I don't have my degree in experince yet :LOL::o
