Has anyone had any experiance with Pro Comp products? I am thinking I may need a set of heads for my 351 W in my 48 F1, and in looking around ProComp aluminum heads seem to be just to be to good to be true.
I am thinking from what research I have done that pro Comp seems to be made in Canada, just can't find anyone who has ever used there stuff. Any information would be good.

I have their intake manifold and electronic distributor on the 350 in my T. For the money they really are not bad at all. I've had zero problems with either.

Don, Thanks for that information. I value your recomendation so I am going to order a set of there heads. It is a great price on those heads, and I sure need all of the help I can get with this Ford motor. Maybe this will be a step in the right direction.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily jump on the heads just because their intakes and distributors are ok. I did a little googling and there seems to be some negative feedback on the quality of their heads. You mention Ford, I am wrestling with the same decision right now. I don't want to lay out a ton of money on heads and have kind of set my budget at the $ 1,000.00 per pair mark. I've held up ordering them until I can do more research.
My criteria for the heads I end up with is that they need to have stock intake and exhaust manifold bolt patterns as I already have my 2 x 4 intake and my headers. I also want some decent heads, but not necessarily super high performance ones, just better than the cast iron ones I had on it originally.
Right now I am leaning toward Edelbrock E Street heads. Here is some info on them:

I do know that the secret to getting a sbf to run is through improved breathing, and while these aren't TrickFlows or some others, they seem to fit my guidelines pretty well. Please understand, I am not putting down the ProComp heads, I just don't know enough about them and would hate to think my endorsement of two other products would sway your decision. Hope someone else has some input, good or bad.
Don't feel bad, I have been trying to make a decision for about a month now and won't know until I finally dial 1-800 Summit or Jegs. :) Do more research and pull up ProComp heads on Google and read some of the results. Obviously, there will always be those who say to buy the most expensive heads out there, but I want to save some money for things like paint and upholstery too. :D

there heads are so so there very cheap they been out for some time i used there H beam rods i am sure have had more then one set in my hands all this stuff is made in china there stuff that many not be all bad i just have not felt that good about using there heads to many things were if there off things can go bad fast alot of this stuff coming from one or more shops in china were it get re stamp with some ones name on it. some of your money you think your going to save could end up with more time in the machine shop to get to work??
I just called Jegs tech line and had a conversation with a guy there about the ProComp and E Street heads. His words were "We have sold a lot of the ProComp heads and surprisingly have had almost no warranty claims or complaints." He also said he has examined them first hand and they look pretty good, but he still isn't convinced personally that the extra $ 2 -300 bucks for a set of Edelbrocks might not be worth it." He really had nothing bad to say about either the ProComps or Edelbrocks.
I understand your logic, $ 673 for a pair of aluminum heads is pretty enticing. I would have spent that much freshening up the Ford DOOE B heads I ran for years, so for the same money or a little more you get a brand new set of aluminum ones.
I guess the thing to remember is that places like Summit and Jegs are very good about returning stuff, so if you bought them and they were not satisfactory you could return them and buy something else.

well i have hear the same thing and been told that from the guys i deal with. they have there name stamp on them as well . i been looking at them for some time the good thing is they still are selling them .in time this stuff some times gets better if you have to send bad stuff back to china .it going to cost so they learn and get better. they do want to sell them .i can buy the china ALUM head for the price of a iron dart or world head for a bbc hard to turn that down. the last bbc head i hurt my self lifting one new world head for a bbc 70+ pounds for one head.i have to have some one lift them for me so i can work on them ...i not kidding:mad:
Hehe, why do you think I play with small block Fords...........them big block parts all weigh a ton each. :eek: I have cast iron heads that are reworked for my 460 project and each head weighs almost as much as two of the 302's.
Aluminum heads are looking better every year.:D

well they are world grumpy Jenkins iron heads thats no lie i still am grumpy well alot of the stock bbc iron heads and fords heads are much lighter then the grumps. i have not given up on bbc i have some alum stuff:Dhard to beat a 600+bbc cid engine that is less then the weight of a iron 350:D

at the time i was doing my 632 donovan the new block with what they called there pro sleeves the block was $4800 so block and pan gasket that was over 6 years ago they could be abit more now:3dSMILE:. so every thing other then the block i pick up some deals along the way .i have not much more then some guys spend on crate engines or less. getting front end weigth off could costed about the same.a 10.200 BIG M billet cap block is about 2824.00 with out shipping so add $120 now $3944 and the donovan is 100+ lbs lighter then a bow tie 10.200 and around 150lbs lighter then a big m so if you want to think this way.. how much is it going to cost to get 150 pounds off the front end of your car? if you want to keep your 66 gto steel hood:D the 11.500 HC donovan i have was a used block thats in good shape. this block is about $6.5000 new. it takes sometimes for me long time to buy all the parts. i wait for a deal as long as i get what i want in the end i can waitQuote:

That was the question I was most concerned with. Like Don I also have a budget figure in mind, mine is also $1,000 dollars or so, the problem was the "Or So" part. Seems like we all want a deal but for that deal I personally am not willing to have to spend the money twice. I have done that waaaay to many times before, even a few times when I really knew better.
This pick-up I am going to use the heads on has been nothing but one kind of problem from another, Thats My Fault. I sure don't need or want to make that even worse. But I am so far in the hole on this one, trying to save a few bucks on "questionable" makes absolutly no sense at all, I mean at this point what is another $600 or $700 hundred bucks?
I did a search ( Google) on these Pro Comp heads. Well there has been a ton of talk on them. Just about every talk forum dealing with cars on the net has at least a thread and sometimes as many as a dozen threads on them.
So I have answered my own question in a way. Today I ordered a set of Eldebrock Aluminum heads from Jegs......

You know Roland, my thinking is along the same lines as yours. I have been trying to stay in that $ 1000 range, but I am not going to let a few hundred bucks either way keep me from buying something I am happy with for the long haul. I tend to keep my cars forever, so I would like parts that last a long time too.
I'm glad you have made your decision...........I'm still wrestling with mine. I have done a lot of reading on line and AFR heads seem to get 100% good feedback from everyone. Don't know if I want to kick in quite that much yet, but tomorrow I plan to make a decision so they can be on their way on Monday.
The big problem is that there are just so many darned heads on the market. If there were only a couple of brands to choose from it would be easier. :confused::confused:

Yeah 34 40, now we're complaining because people are actually making speed parts for us! :) Now if they would just get the cost down to what Chevy guys pay for your stuff.
Dave, Summit has some good prices on Trick Flow and I understand it is because they own the company or part of it. Only thing that concerns me is how they will work with my pistons..........are there clearance issues? One other thing that is in the back of my mind is maybe aluminum heads might have a sealing problem if a motor runs warm. Living in Florida this car always ran on the edge, in the 190+ range. Part of it was that the radiator is chopped 8.5 inches from the stock 32 size, so cooling is marginal. Maybe steel heads like World Products would work better under those conditions?

Ok, I've spent way too much time making the decision of what heads to go with, so I finally jumped down off of that fence..........just placed my order with Summit. :)
I decided to go with Edelbrock E-Street heads which are their latest. They call these an entry level head but for the kind of driving I will be doing they seem to fit the bill. First of all, they are only $ 921.00 a pair, and the port volume is a little less than some of the others which should give me good throttle response at lower speeds. They also work with my aluminum 2 x 4 intake and Sanderson headers. Pretty much they are a direct bolt on and also have the guide plates and screw in studs I wanted. I also like the fact they are USA made by Edelbrock......all of their stuff seems very good IMO. They should be here on Wednesday.:D
Once I get them on I can start deciding what roller rockers I am going to use.

Hey Don, thanks for posting the E-Street heads. I didn't know about them yet. What size is your motor? Did you order the 1.90" or 2.02" valves?
Richard, I went with the 331 stroker from Scat. Heads I ordered have 202 valves, should clear my pistons according to Scat and Summit. Here is a little info from Edelbrock on these heads:

All in all it should be a pretty crisp engine and the 4.30 gears should let the X303 cam get into it's operating range. I'm pretty anxious to see how the old girl pulls when I get it running. :)

Should be a little sweetheart. I've read where those 331's make way more sense than a 347. What's the static c.r.? I'll run a DynoSim on it later if you'd like.
Scat tells me with 60 cc heads about 10.5. Thanks for doing that.
Yeah, I've heard more good about 331's than 347's.........especially in the oil consumption and longevity areas. But even in the 331 they supply you with an additional support ring that goes under the bottom oil control ring to brace the area that is cut out for the pin being moved up.

I always use the Trick Flow matching pistons with the Trick Flow heads..... Never had a problem cooling with aluminum heads, sometimes on the early spring and late fall racing, takes a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to get the heads to temp....This is drag racing, I sure don't see any problems on the street....Quote:
