adjusting your drive shaft length?
Today I was trying to get my old drive shaft in. It appears it is slightly too long, now that I have my 460 /c-6 in properly and have switch to a 9 inch ford rear axle. How do you shorten these? Can I take it to a welder, and have him cut off say 4 inches and reweld the shaft together, or do I need to order a custom made one? Not sure what is appropriate. Thanks, Steve."

Just remember that if you have it shortened you will have to have it balanced.Ken Thomas

Thanks guys. I found a local shop that specializes in this. He said he can take care of it. He was a little worried looking at the existing shaft as it looks to be a home fab job. He said he'll spin it before trying to shorten it. If it's way off balance he'll use another used shaft to make the right length. Always learning here!
