Newb Oil Pressure question

I'm pretty much like you Jim in that respect, I know more about fabricating cars than building engines. What is funny about that is friends and coworkers automatically assume that because we know how to build a car from the ground up that we are really good mechanics. I get people all the time at work and all who come up to me and say "Hey, you know a lot about cars, I have this 2001 Toyota and it's making such and such a noise." I have to tell them I have no idea what it could be, and that I usually take my daily to the garage if it develops a problem. I know they think I am just blowing them off, but it's the truth.

I see these guys on here who really know their engines and know one end of a degree wheel from another, and I envy them.

BTW, glad the oil pump seems to have solved your problem. :):)

Well a clear day today and I took the coupe out and warmed it up. It looks like it was not the oil pump, at idle I am right back at almost zero pressure. Back to square one, maybe a crate motor and end this, I probably can't get it in an engine shop and out for this season. It probably needs completely gone thru. I guess some days go better than others. Thanks again for all you input. Also Itoldyouso I spent about two hours this morning reading your 3K car story! Great reading.

well i can get you in and out on a re build in less then two weeks i don know were you are from kawkawlin mich ?

Did you get to the good parts yet..................cat's and Uncle Bob's prom dates?:eek::LOL::LOL: Glad you enjoyed it but sorry to hear about the oil pressure. Guess it's just tired and needs freshened up or a new motor. Good luck.

remove the valve covers to see if the oil return holes are plugged with debries preventing the oil from returning to the pan---if you pump all the oil to the top(takes a few minutes) and it can't get back to the pan you will have low pressure ---takes about as long to pump all the oil to the top as it does to warm up the engine

I am 5 hours from Kawkawlin, Just curious what should I expect to pay for a rebuild? This seems to be a real pain but there has to be some good in here somewhere!

if cast pistons or hyper and all new parts not to bad on a 350.the more you move from mild to stock build the more money you can spend the best thing is to call me .i will be happy to give you the cost of parts and time as long as parts ars not crack or hurt past repair .i do have a 350 4 bolt main engine if you need a core. i could short or long block it. you could just pick it up and drop it in and go. the engine would be all be fresh. i never did any thing with it but would be 030 on the bore. crank will clean at 010/010 and have 030 new forged flat top pistons . could be built from intake to pan or just short block PAT McCarthy 989-667-4071
