When I put my car (avatar) together, I spent extra time on all the mating surfaces and put it together without any fender welt. I painted all the parts individually before I assembled the car, and then thanks to a paint mixing screw up (not mine) I painted the whole car again after it was assembled. It does not squeak, rattle, nor do anything weird without fender welt.
