I doubt if that is common as I have never heard anyone speak of it before. Personally only found that on dump trucks and it is a bitch .
Do you have lower A arm supports ?

No, but it's quite common on systems with bump steer.

I'd be checking the camber on the front end.
I had the same problem with my old ford, the
camber was not right and there was no adjustment
for the camber so they had to bend the front axles.
after that the problem was solved, it stoped taking
off on me, and settled right down.
