1946 chevy truck

I have a 1946 Chevy truck that still has the 216 in it .I am tearing the truck down now and going to sandblast the frame.I going to box in the frame but I want to put a 4 inch drop axel in it and not a IFS .My question is will I have room for a small block Chevy and headers with a stock stearing gear still mounted on the inside of the frame rail?

Hi Jim, first thing I would do is research all the header manufacturers and find the best fit in the type of header you want to use....

Even if they don't list the header as fitting your truck, if you call 'em up and tell 'em you can move the motor around some, you'll probably come up with a fit.

You can move the motor to the passenger's side or up or down, wherever you need to for clearance as long as you keep the crankshaft centerline perpendicular to the rear axle. Some OEM Mopars had the motor moved to the passenger side by 3" for valve cover/brake booster clearance. Of course the other limiting factor will be the transmission/driveshaft tunnel unless you want to do some surgery there.
