Yes there should be 12 volts coming out of the purple wire..How much voltage does the battery have???
check cable connections.
First thing to do. Disconnect all ground wires, scrape or sand down to bare metal and reconnect. Replace positive and negative battery cables.
All Corvettes are notorious for grounding issues.. If the battery voltage is 12.5 or so the promlem is probably a ground..
Ok I SHOULD have 12 volts at the purple wire... I have full power at the battery and starter, and i have a charger hooked up just in case. Maybe the purple wire has become brittle and has gained some resistance? Im gonna try turning over the starter with a screwdriver tomorrow to make sure im dealing with a good starter... maybe the solenoid fried that purple wire...
If you picked up restitance it's more likely in the switch that's at the base of the column where the purple wire connects to the primary power supply. If that's the issue the good news here is that you don't have to take the column apart to replace it.
Hello fellow hot rod vetter! If your wiring is close to mine, the purple start wire should come from you key switch, easy enough to check voltage at the base of the column at the flat connector, check for 12vlts going in and out. And, get a Mid America manual, they have the wiring diagrams, makes it real easy to back track any electrical issues..
More than once I have seen bad grounds where the battery neg is grounded to the chassis on those.
why thank you, glad to be here, Im goign to check at the column as soon as i get a chance, the car is outside and the weathers getting crappy so ill see what i can do! I remember probing the purple wire unhooked from the starter and it was on zero and went to 7.3 with the key forward. I dont thing the ground is bad from the battery because i have full power at the starter, lights and interior lights/windows work so i know the accesorries work. New battery cables are on my TO DO list but i dont think its the main culprit of not starting. Thanks for the welcome and the help!
OK starter works when S terminal is jumped. I still have to find that switch... its pretty tight squeeze getting under that dashboard. Like i said this is a project car right now, still plan on changing motor/trans/breaklines... then restoring the little things.
really? sounds like a plan i just have to find it... is it that key thingy on the driver fender?? i know i should be bothering the corvette forum but they are wayy too crowded... haha thanks bud.
ok ill check that along with the NSS + ignition switch,, its just soo darn cold!
