gauges

i have a set of gauges from a 33/34 ford. i would like to have the gauges upated/refurbished to 12 volt. i also would like the speedometer done. has anyone had this done & by what company? would you recommend someone/company?

Dont waste the time, store them in a box and sell them to a used parts place, use the money to get the Autometer vintage looking gagues. You would be able to buy 2 sets of these for what you would pay to get your one set of gagues converted and referbed.

thanks,but the guy that answered the phone at U.S.Speedometer told me they would do the speedo but not the other gauges. i had already checked locally, no luck around here .

Why dont you get U.S Speedometer to do your sppedmeter and just refurbish your others with some polish and cleaner but save time and leave them mechanical.

Below are two companies that should be able to do the trick. Classic Instruments sells new aftermarket stuff, but also has a service to refurbish and upgrade. So does North Hollywood. I've seen work from both companies in different magazines so the stuff looks good. Probably not cheap no matter who you use. Good Luck!

You can reuse the original if they can be refurbished by using a voltage drop. If you know the amp use of each which should be very little. I use the drops when the original gauges want to be used. If you are interested i can give you the part number for the drop. I get mine from Car Quest in Louisiana. I have two in the shop and can get you the numbers tomorrow. Also Ron Francis wire works has them>

i was considering doing that, had my copy of the wire works catalog out. since i would like the gauges to look a little better & the speedo updated, i thought i would just have em all done.

There is an interesting article in January issue of Souther Rodder or American Rodder magazine where a fellow took a modern aftermarket gauge and adapted it to the original dash. I thought it was a super neat article for the home builder. The speedo looked original when he got through. You need to check it out. It may give you some ideas.
