Why not - they are close regardless and I did the '32 rear mounted tank for mine. I felt that it was safer then the usual other 3 areas:

1 - Original location - I didn't want 10 gallons of gas inside of the car and virtually in my lap

2 - Trunk location - still inside of the car with not much of a firewall between the trunk and me. A sedan - possibly a steel firewall can be constructed.

3 - Under the splash shields - Tank's Inc make a pair of plastic/poly 6 gallon tanks that are fitted under the splash shield. Crawl under a car with these and you will find that the fronts of these tanks are the cars low point - especially in the event of a front wheel or suspension failure or off road excursion.

The rear '32 style tank, though still not optimum, IMO will give you the best chance to escape a gas fire in the event of a crash.
