63 pontiac catalina limo project

Some updated pictures of this project. Finally got it off the rotisery and started on finishing up the sills and lining up the doors. Next is deciding a power plant for it and finish repairing the floor. I am also thinking about making the car a couple feet longer that will make it about 28feet long.

I had originally thought about putting a 6.6l diesel motor with allison 5 speed in the limo. I ran into a problem with the driveline being a foot above the floor and therefore making the tunnel roughly 18 inches tall. So scratch that idea. I am now thinking about going to a toronado or cad FWD setup and a Fuel injected cad 500 turbo motor. What do you think of that idea? Another idea is bolting a diesel motor up to the toronado trans. Does anyone know if there is a diesel motor that will bolt up to the toronado trans?

i think a allson v12 or a merlin v12 would be neat in there but that just may be me

A GM 350 Diesel from the mid to late 70's (?) was built on an Olds based 350, so should bolt right up to a Toronado transaxle.

Also, I designed and built an aftermarket Pontiac block that can be built up to 600 cubic inches, that would be way cool.

The block is currently being manufactured by All Pontiac in Va. Check their web site at www.allpontiac.com

GM made a 702 CI V12 that they used in some firetrucks and airport trucks. That'd be perfect if you could find one.

Yes!! allison or merlin v12 would be awesome!! Think i would have to modify the car to fit.. No prob!

I will have to check out that diesel and that pontiac block..

Old codger with vintage speed shop, he's got an Allison aircraft V12 ( WWII ) sitting in the corner. Right next to a ardun-Hemi Ford.

I'll bet he'll come off them if the price is right.

every day i work in my shop that i rented from a guy had a new never used allison v12 on a trailer look at the monster every day but if that will not do i could get you past 700 cid in a v8:D

Put 2 door doors on it and weld the rest shut and make a super long sedan delivery,it would look neat but a pain to back up and change lanes.

So I recently changed my plan with my current 63 pontiac limo project. I was going to put a diesel 6.6L with allison 5 speed but found that the drive line and tranny would be a problem. The tunnel housing would take up most the party space in the back. bla!.. Now the plan is to convert to FWD via toronado tans axle and a big block 500 cadillac with forged pistons, fuel injection, and possibly a couple of really small.. . i mean large turbos attached. I will gain some floor space this way and can do FWD burn outs.

So far I have finished welding the toronado front frame to the limo frame and have lengthened the front fenders 9 inches behind the front wheels. Next is to lengthen the fenders in front of the wheel and then modify the hood to fit. I am thinking about cutting up the hood and building a sort of cowl induction style hood. May as well while i am at it right?

I bent up some floor pieces for the limo and installed them last night. Its not going to have a hump in the floor for a driveline or exhaust. Totally flat!. I am runing the duel 3" exhaust on each side along the frame rails under the floor.

Current Ideas
Outside - Shaved handels, chrome or painted bumpers, dark metalic green paint and one or two more colors, lengthen the front end, suicide rear doors and extend the doors a foot, lengthen it a foot behind the driver doors, large moon roof.

Nice job! This thing will be cool but I'd hate to have your interior costs!

I will be doing most of the interior myself as well but don't know how much it is going to cost for material. I have a few ideas for the interior.. I guess I will figure that out when it gets to that point.
