it is the belt drive and the air moving out from under it the older belts drive with square drive lugs on the belts then the new mm belts

Sure, Run a Pete Jackson Noisey Gear drive and IT will make the blower sound better.. BUT, MOST rodders KNOW the difference in the sounds!!

The 1/2" (cog to cog pitch) belts that Pat mentioned are the noisiest. The 8mm belts are quieter. Some fellows drill holes in the valleys of the pulleys to allow air to escape and quiet down the system.

You want to hear noisy, take a trip with me back to the 50's when blowers were driven with chains!!!!!!!

I hate to sound so oblivious here but, what is the difference in all these belts ( gilmore, 1/2 cog to cog and 8mm) and how do you identify each of them? I have the 8 mm style but the only reason i know that is because it says it on the belt.

the bower is not making the whine ? well you hope not .it is all in the type of belt pulleys with flanges will make more noise like the old gilmer belts but the new high torque drive belts mm do not trap as much air getting it squeeze out . i like mine quiet makes it EZ to sneak up on my prey

I'm sure all you guys are right, but if I want more noise I just change pulleys. The more boost it has the louder it gets. It's just spinning it faster.

at the boat yard i work at had a 671 roots running a bubbler system and it was very very loud . but if you spin the blower faster your spinng the belt faster smashing more air and making more noise not all of it is the belt lots of back lash in the gears bad bearings and no oil and very tight belt and a 1/2 lug belt a i bet it will make a bunch of noise

Interesting subject. I am building a blower 383 next spring with a Weiand 671 blower. Simply for shock value and for fun. Not racing! Since the package comes with the larger AND smaller pulley, will I be able to make it louder just by changing the pulley?

Cruising Good Guys I want it LOUD but when cruising long distances....maybe not so much.

well your boost will go up so there more to just moving the pulleys around if you not careful you will be moving your rods around out side the block

Two sets of pulleys and two belts. 1/2" pitch pullies with no pulley holes and high boost for noise and showin' off. 8mm pitch pulleys with holes for (relatively) quiet operation at low to moderate boost for cruising.
