I have a 66 falcon ranchero and am looking to buy disc brakes for the front. Most places i have visited sell them around $925 and the thing is they wont fit my original 14" wheels and dont have the money to be buying new wheels as well. So i was wondering if it is possible to just buy a Power Brake Booster and apply it to the drum brakes? If so, will they provide sufficient stopping power? would this be a better way to go for someone on such a tight budget? thanx
Disc brakes for a 65 or 66 Mustang should be a bolt on swap if you can find some.

I found some mustang brakes and they say that they are just bolt on? Does that mean all i need to do is take the drums off and stick these on and im done? Do i need to run any lines or anything of that nature? thanx
Maverick and granadas have the same type of suspension and should work,the only problem with the early mustang discs is the calipers are four piston versions and are expensive to replace or repair and the maverick and granadas are single piston and can be bought at most parts stores. Get a dual resevour mastercylinder while you are at it,you will have to do a little changing of the brake lines. Jeff
I also found some granada disc brakes that i was told would fit my car... would those be better to go with rather than the mustangs?
Also.. if i went with the granada disc brakes could I make them power brakes later on if i wanted?

well the thing is that I have minimal experience with fabricating if any at all and I am simply looking for the easiest way out with the least amount of money spent. I think the granada disc brakes might be a little too complicated for me. So would just turing my drum brakes into power brakes be suffice for now?
Im running a 3000lb plymouth with no power booster and with drum brakes. They dont give me any problem with stopping, you just have to know that they need more pressure placed on them and you have to plan ahead when your going to stop. You cant stop as quickly as a modern car, but a lot of cars came out with drums and no one complained.
Unfortunately my father wont allow me to drive full time unless I do one or the other. Im leaning towards just making the drums power brakes and then later adding the disc brakes. That would probaly be best for me right now.
Dont Drive that car full time anyway to keep the miles down and the value up, keeping stock braking will retain more value but it's all your and your dads call.
I dont drive it much right now, but as soon as i get my disc brakes ill probaly be driving it on a regular basis since its my only mode of transportation.
ok simple question... can u add a power booster to stock drum brakes??
I cant be shure but i think a galaxi has power brakes and the ranchero's were designed around there basis i think. you'll have to check this one out to be shour but if it is it will bolt right up.
Maybee check out http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com/ They might have something that will fit. I got mine there and my kit was only $425. thier prices I thought were good and the qualitywas excellent. Just a idea.
Granada is a simple bolt in. But, you will have to change the inside tie rod end to a Moog part # es363r1 (you'll need 2) 1 for each side

Well im just gonna use the mustang unit on my 4 drum brakes, so is the chasis the same for the mustang too or will i need to adjust a couple of things to get it to fit?
Yes, I am just trying to look for a power unit for my drum brakes at this point. I was looking for disc brakes but decided not to do that right now. So ur sayin i should go with the fairlane one huh?
oh.. and wut is the difference between Restoreres and Hot Rod usage. Will the Mustang unit not work well with my factory set up?
