I am using Bondo 261 (lightweight filler) and 907 (glazing putty) in reshaping an existing fiberglass hood scoop (adding a centerline ridge). Is there anything I can add to this material to slow the drying times - extend the working time?:confused:
Or is there a better product to use for this application in Gulf Coast summer?:confused:
less hardener, but you have to be careful that you add enough that it works..
I would not use the Bondo glazing putty. it is a laquer product that you will learn to hate, because it shrinks down.. I'v used it and the Napa brand laquer based spot putty and both give the same hassles... I use a 3M acrylic based glazing putty, which seems to work better.
Heat /sun and low humidity make it dry faster..............maybe late at night,or early morning ,direct sun is the worst.

I much prefer all the Evercoat products, very good fillers!!!! Most any auto parts store that has paint products should sell them.... They make one with some very fine strand fiberglass in it that is very, very strong. Think I'd use a small amount of it as a base, not much cuz it is quite tough to sand, then the Lightweight filler (they have about 5 different products, different prices) to final fill. Sands easy, doesn't clog up the paper and minimal shrinkage....
Yup.. and Evercoat products is sold right at Napa, just with Napa labels... The carquest near me that sells paint, sells bondo brand stuff.... Bondo brand is designed for consumer use where as Evercoat stuff is professional products, so it is held to a higher standard, and really, does not cost that much more.. Gallon of Bondo is somthing like $17 per gallon from walmart. I can pick up the basic Evercoat from Napa, for $25 per gallon... what makes no sense at all tho, is the 3M acrylic glazing putty I picked up the other day, was a tube ( large tube, but still a tube ).. price on that was $37 with tax
The glaze is a much finer product, sands very easy, and doesn't create air bubbles unless you really mess up the application.... I suppose because of this it costs a bit more to make and thus the higher cost....??? I use the Evercoat glaze, like it better then the 3M...seems to have a bit better adhesion.....Quote:

I guess it does make sense, that glazing putty is so much more expensive. it is a lot nicer to work with, spreads and sands much nicer and all..
There are two of them Matt, so be careful which one you use. One glaze is approved for use over bare metal, like to smooth out sanding scrathes, and the other is suggested to be used on either primed surfaces or other Evercoat fillers.... I use the Metal Glaze, it works on everything.....Quote:

Yup, it's good stuff Matt, a real time saver and finishes out very nice....
I like the ice glaze. i believe it is an evercoat product.
