I just bought a Benchtop Planashing Hammer from Harbor Freight, it's the smaller model that normally sells for $74.99, but my local 1 has them on a huge discount now for $39.99 so I bought 1. I have yet to mount it. what ga metal should I practice on?

I want to create the rear tub for a T tub/ phateon type body eventully. might tackle the cowl if I can get good enough with it, otherwise I'll find an original
well, I got it all installed. had to clean the shed up for room but I mounted it with 2 3/8" X 1" lag screws into my 2"X 24" pine work bench. Very easy to assemble, I did it w/o instructions, then checked the instructions to make sure I did it right.
Damn 39 bucks is great, my local one had em for 89. If they get that cheap here ijm getting one! I would just use any thin scrap you have laying around to get a feel for it. Then you will find out how it reacts to different guage metal.
The internet store has them listed for $49.. if your local store isn't holding a big sale on them now, just print the ad from the website, and take it to your local HF, they will honor the discounted price
well, just an update. I hooked it up to Air today.. I guess for $39 it's not bad but.. I had a few things to overcome, the Air hammer that it uses, is just an air hammer, and the trigger still works as the trigger, there was nothing in the manual about this, I thought that the trigger was bypassed but it's not.. so my fix was a zip tie on the trigger, works great now. the pedal is just a bleed off valve, so when you plug it in to air, it bleeds off the excess air out of a vent, until you step on the pedal, and then it will close the bleed off valve and it goes to the air hammer. once you get it going, it works pretty good. all I had was an old fender from my brothers KIA. I managed to flatten out 1 of the body lines and round it over kinda. I still need practice, but I'll have some uses for it.
