A push fan on a Blown Hemi? Will it cool?

Hello Everyone, I hope that everyone is having a fantastic evening!! ;)_
I have a '32 Ford that I'm putting a blown Hemi in that will not have a hood top or sides. I now have a pull through electric fan on an aluminum radiator {Griffin}. I was told by my builder that the radiator will handle up to 700 HP . I think I'll just be in the low 600's for HP with the hemi. It now has a 413 small block that only needs the electic fan on on hot summer days in traffic. My question is; Can I use a push through fan on my application? I want to do this to gain clearance for my engine. Thanks all, Bill

Bill, I have both a pusher and puller on my radiator, but I can't really say that the pusher really helps. Pusher is actually mounted to the a/c condenser. I have been told that the pusher actually works against a good puller, not sure if that is true or not. I don't know if a pusher only will do what you want it to do.

How thick is your current puller fan??? How much space do you have between the radiator and the motor?? If you don't already have one, Cooling Components has a new fan/shroud combo out (introduce last October) that is rated at 2500 cfm and is only 2 and 5/8" thick at the fan motor. Thats about 1 and 5/8 inches less thick than their previous model. The cost is about $250 including the shroud. Might be just what you need in lieu of adding a pusher. I'm thinking of putting one on my 34 this year.

Where are you going to hide the fan? There really isn't a lot of room in front of a Deuce grille shell to put a pusher. You would be way better off making room behind and putting a shroud on your electric fan. Pullers are much more efficient.

Bill, I always ran hot with a pusher only. I went with a Walker radiator, shroud & pull electric fan and it solved the problem. I'm convinced that the shroud is what really made the difference.

did a blown 350 in A bone with a bm mega blower move the rad up and cut the head light bar under the light mounts for more room .i have two spalls on the chevy pushers and that with the 548 with the bm mega blower it works but could be better

.....Bob Thank You, current fan is a Spal & it measures 3 3/4". I went to the Cooling Components web site & checked out their fan w/ shroud combo. I like it & think I'll get it! Thanks! My current set up doesn't have a shroud {although it didn't over heat w/ small block but with a blown hemi it might} & the Cooling Components one is 1 1/8" narrower. I don't know how much room I'll have between the radiator & engine because I haven't got the new motor in yet. I just got the 'mock up plastic' motor in the mail yesterday & my addapter to connect the hemi to my turbo 400 won't be here until next week. Although all I have left to do to pull my small block chev out is unbolt the trans. But I can tell by the measureing I've done that I'm going to need ALL the room I can get! In fact I might go with a Hilborn injection w/ no blower due to space restraints....
Don Thank You, your right about not really having any room up front for a push fan. After getting the grill shell & radiator off I realized that I could trim the radiator & grill shell to where the radiator actually almost touches the grill insert. In fact to get a push fan in there I'd have to move the radiator AWAY from the grill insert & towards the engine. Which defeats what I'm trying to accomplish!
Larry Thanks for the shroud info. I see now that I should & will go for one. I don't want to take any chances on over heating.

Thanks Pat, you 'snuck' in your post while I was replying! Yes, my radiator/grill shell was already moved forward 1 3/4" at the bottom in order for the Billet Specialties front alt, water pump, a/c bracket to fit {sore subject as I didn't realize this was done UNTIL I tried to fit the hood sides on! Now I see WHY the builder didn't 'have time' to put my hood sides on! PLUS I didn't like paying $1900 dollars for a bunch of aluminum when $50 dollars worth of steel would have gotten the job done! Whew, thanks for listening, vent! vent! ;) } Anyway, so the radiator is already forward 1 3/4" at the bottom. I will not run my hood top & just push the radiator forward at the top 1 3/4". My headlight mounts are also my shock mounts so they aren't in the way. And if necessary I can even move my radiator/grill up a little more. What I'm trying to NOT have to do is move my firewall back. I can do {at least I have the ableity to do, motivation is the only thing that will hold me back} the project myself w/o moving the firewall back. If I have to do this I will be in over my head. Not saying I can't do it, just that it will be something that I know nothing about! Thanks again Pat, Bill
