Por -15 anyone?

Now that my engine and transmission are out, I'm focusing on cleaning up and painting the body and frame. I have heard great things about POR-15. One local auto paint store says you just brush paint the product right onto the rust, and it will seal, stop rust, and flatten out so the brush marks go away. I have a trial kit that I'll get to next week and see how it goes, but wanted to know if anyone here has been there done that, and how it worked, longevity, etc.
I also got a tip on firewall paint. The guy at our local store said most everybody now days is using a SEM product, in 18oz. spray can that lays on like you sprayed it professionally. He said as long as no bare metal is exposed that they prime with a black duppont primer, and top coat with the Sem. Sounds almost too good, but the time savings and money seems worth a try. Steve.

Yes, I use POR 15. Its great stuff. I would not use it on my car though. I use it on farm equipment , trailors. If its going to see the sun you need to top coat it with paint cause it will fade real quick. Brush it on for a glossy look and spray it for a semi- gloss look. USE YOUR PROTECTION ITS STRONG STUFF.

I agree with BigTruckDriver it's very strong, it smells like roofing tar, that's been thinned with solvent. Once it dries it is pretty smooth and shiny.

I use the heck out of POR 15.... One thing I have learned with it, if you plan on having a color coat over it there is sometimes some adhesion issues.... What I do that so far hasn't failed is to apply the POR 15, then when it is in the final stages of still tacky, shoot some epoxy primer over it.... Haven't had any adhesion problems using this method.....

If you spray it, make sure you use a very good respirator because breathing that stuff can be deadly. Use caution!

I have had adhesion problems to good clean metal without the use of the metal prep. The metal prep must be washed off with water.The metal prep is also a rust converter so spray it on heavy on rusty areas and wait until the rust turns purple/black before washing it off. If your like me and have a wood stove or something in you garage make sure you spread water on the floor. Por-15 uses humidity to dry. Also por 15 does not have any uv protection so it must be topcoated where exposed to the sun. I have had no adhesion problems with topcoats when the por 15 is fully dried and sanded.

If it's on the underside of the car, does it need a top coat?**)
