The 10 bolt is stronger than you might think. I totally put one to the test in my 66 Nova all because someone I didn't like told me I had to put a 9" in it to race the car. Being a bull headed german like I am I just had to show him and there was no way I would remove it. I ran the origional 10 bolt for 14 full seasons of drag racing 300+ runs a year. I had several 400 small blocks tied to a powerglide with a 5000 stall so this 10 bolt was used & abused with killer traction and slicks. I did have Mark Williams axels and broke 2 posi's and installed a mini spool. Told ya I wasn't going to give up. That adds up to one posi replacement every five years. Mid way through season 14 I broke an axel at the splines where it meets the posi. The weak point for a 10 bolt is the thickness of the axel on the spline end plus less number of splines, doesn't matter if it is a stock or aftermarket axel.
I now have a 12 bolt in it.

As "Itoldyouso" said any rearend can be destroyed. It is all about how well the rear end is set up.

It's your choice...I personally wouldn't worry to much about a 10 bolt on the street.
