I have a piece of potmetal trim that i want to fill in the pitted areas, trying
to figure out was material to use. Chrome piece is going to be painted black when filled and sanded. Any ideas ? Thanks Bill

If you’re just going to paint them I've seen people use Plastic body filler.Quote:

No the piece has already been chromed, but it has accents that are painted
satin black, Guess I could try a body shop supply store.
kind of hard to even get paint to stick to chrome without peeling off .
why not take something small like a dremal/roto tool and scuff just the area your wanting to paint ,not grind...> scuff , and make sure you hit the pits real good and use some allsteel or metal two part . Work it as much as you can before it dries then sand it down and paint it .
Yea, I just bought a new scoocum dremel for that reason, But I was trying
to figure out what would be the best to fill the dimples with.

your prep before filling, sanding ,and painting is what is going to make the most difference, if they hold or fall out of your "pitted areas" that your wanting to paint.
IMO have it stripped then filled and rechromed by a knowledgeable chrome plater , they probably even have a guy on call to handle the "satin black" area for you , then it'll be better than it ever was.

I just did a couple Studebaker grill surrounds that were badly pitted. Had the whole thing chromed, but parts are supposed to be painted. After roughing up the areas to be painted I used spot putty to fill in the dimples. I found it much easer to work with than regular body filler. No hardener to add. Put it on as thin as possible, sand and apply second go around if needed then prime with high build primer to fill any tiny imperfections then final sand and paint. I was pleased with the way they came out.

One more thing, be sure to mask the shiny parts well to protect them from sanding "mistakes". I actually double masked.

:p I dont even remember anything youve posted. I was asking because I have a frame that I have welded up some holes on and It has some small pits and low spots. I was looking for something to fill in to paint since I did not want to weld and grind for such small imperfections. Calm down I am not going out of my way to correct your post:eek:Quote:

Ok.... bought some pit fill poly putty, gonna give that a try
HA GUY'S if you need somethong to fill oin the pits or dents, then try some MARINE TEX. best stuff ever for any size repair. sandable,drillable, vert app, horizonal. it does it all. good luck and have a nice day. dave
